Modeling Auditions: Starting Point For Models
To become a well-paid model starts with auditioning for a top modeling agency who has access to the best industry jobs. Most of the reputable agencies are in New York and Los Angeles, and in most cases, will require an audition. To get your face seen, you don't need to attend a modeling school to be invited to the top agencies. Just send them a digital or hard copy photo, with emphasis on your face from the front view. A body shot is also helpful, but not as introductory as your face. Women over 40 are strongly encouraged to apply, as the marketing demand for mature models is expanding every year. Gone are the days when a model is washed up at 30. As the consumer market ages, so increases the demand for that demographic to be represented in magazines, runway and commercials. So, never be discouraged by your age. Once you have secured your first audition, try these useful tips to be the best you can be.
Your modeling audition will be set at a fixed time or perhaps in a window of time of two hours or so. Either way, its very important to arrive early and allow yourself time to relax and prepare. If your appointment is a fixed time, try to be there at least 20 minutes early. You will need time to touch up your hair and make-up, take some deep breaths and calm yourself for the audition. On a very hot day, its crucial to arrive extra early and allow yourself time to "dry out" in an air conditioned building and bring your body temperature back to normal before re-applying your make-up. Upon arrival, find the check point that you are to meet for the audition before you attempt to find the ladies room. You want to be sure you are not the last girl to walk in the door for an audition where the top brass is waiting for you. And you can be sure they will notice who was late.
Your audition may require you to read a short text called "copy". This is another priority reason to be at the audition early, as you will have an extra edge over your competition with your study time. You may be asked to read your copy in a variety of different ways, bringing new life and breath to the script each time, so be prepared for some flexibility, and give yourself plenty space to study up.
If you are asked to bring your own swimsuit, you are in luck and have a measure of control over what looks good on you. Not all suits and fabrics flatter every figure, and you want to choose a cut and style that accentuates your shape. A high cut bikini or one-piece suit will elongate your legs, but be sure that the hip cut does not show your hip bone. Trendy swimsuits should be avoided if they do not frame you properly. Although a hip hugger style may be popular at the beach, this style will cut the image of a long, clean leg line, and may be injurious to your overall appearance. In addition, choosing a swimsuit with 10 to 20 percent Spandex will hug your curves where its suppose to, while giving you some leeway with the fit. Also, you'll need a suit that you may move comfortably in, so be sure to wear at least a half size bigger than your measurements.
When the big audition is coming, be sure you are free from unsightly tan lines. If you wish to bronze, the safest way to do it is at a salon for a light tanning mist spray. The coverage is even and under your control to find the shade that best suits you. But, soaking up rays in the sun is asking for trouble. Your skin may burn, blister, peel or come out uneven, so the beach is out of bounds on audition week.
